Astra Zeneca

The meaning of the name „Astra Zeneca“ alludes to the serial solution of the letters of the alphabet, „from A to Z“. This is the starting point for a reasoning based on the interaction between name, meaning and object.
In this series of works the layers of colour and material describe by negation what is happening on the canvas, blocking the illusion of access to the narrative. At the same time, the described forms are sanctioned by a boundary between space and subject; however, they remain open to interpretation, without showing any precise reference to the real world.

When the word fails to give a name to what is seen, the subject acquires an identity: the viewer is thus forced to confront the absurdity of his conclusions and trust the claims of the painting.
